Sunless Sea: Words and Murder
Posted on April 11, 2015 at 9:39 pm
Games very rarely use words in a good way. Most use them in disgusting, overbearing fonts to tell you how long your kill streak is, or what your score is or to point you towards your next objective. Sunless Sea is a game that embraces the joy of the word; it is a game about you, the unknown sea captain, taking over an abandoned ship and hiring on a crew of miscreants and making your way through an underground ocean meeting people and meeting people with bizarre stories, personal touches and endless layers of mystery.
The game marries this love of the word to a haunting soundtrack and a beautiful visual style. That, coupled with the game’s myriad free updates, has meant that the game has proven to be extremely popular with people. The game is unlike anything that was around at the time, and anything that has come since. I can’t put it down.

Final Fantasy XIV: A realm saved
Posted on March 12, 2015 at 11:13 am
Final Fantasy XI is the greatest massively multiplayer online role playing game ever conceived by man. Perfect in, almost, every way. It stands to reason, then, that everyone in their right minds would then get excited about Final Fantasy XIV; the second Final Fantasy MMORPG from Square Enix, and some of the minds behind Final Fantasy XI. The excitement, as it turns out, was completely misplaced. The game launched with horrendous issues, an enormous lack of content and extremely sub standard gameplay that made the entire experience an embarrassment for players and the company alike.
Fast forward two years and ‘A Realm Reborn’ has been released. A brand new team from within Square Enix took the reigns, explained away the old story and forged ahead; making a game that, while still not perfect, has gone some way to restoring their public image and recouping a lot of the profits from the original game.

Destiny: Gaming’s biggest franchise ever?
Posted on January 13, 2015 at 6:21 pm
One of the biggest gaming releases of the past decade has been Destiny. From the developers behind the Halo franchise, and the publishers behind Call of Duty and World of Warcraft, Destiny was slated to be the biggest franchise the gaming world has ever seen.
Promises of incredible gunplay, huge sprawling worlds, and the social interactions of the biggest MMOs meant that players were getting massively hyped before the game release. The launch went smoothly; players flocked to the game on Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Playstation 3 before discovering that the game wasn’t quite what they were expecting.
Content seemed to be missing, the voice work and writing was poor, and Bungie had added “grinding” (performing the same actions over and over to slowly get towards arbitrary goals) instead of adding unique and difficult challenges.
Bungie has slowly begun to add content and change various things through updates, so maybe the game that players were promised is slowly coming.

Yoshi’s Woolly World
Posted on September 16, 2014 at 1:32 pm
Yoshi has picked up a good number of fans from appearances IN Mario games, but this time Yoshi is in the spotlight, and it’s a woollen world. The characters and surroundings really do look as though they’ve been made by hand, and it’s a very comfortable looking game, until of course evil characters step across your pathway.
This is a game that’s brilliant for single players and multiplayers, while you’re able to throw knitted eggs, grow in size, and use your tongues to clear the passageway. As on individual uses the Wii U GamePad, the other can use the standard Wii controller, and you can easily spend hours wondering through these colours, comfortable, unique woollen world.
The game is set to be release next year but there are high expectations and it could prove to be a big hit, while many Mario fans will be watching the launch very closely.
